Welcome to our May\u00a0news update\u00a0and I hope you are all enjoying some of the new found freedoms that\u00a0the easing of\u00a0lockdown brings!
\nBHS Annual Scientific meeting\u00a09-11 June 2021<\/strong><\/p>\n

The next major event for the British Hip Society is our\u00a0Annual\u00a0Scientific\u00a0Meeting which is taking\u00a0place\u00a0virtually\u00a0from June\u00a09-11.\u00a0One of the benefits of an online meeting is that we can be joined by colleagues from\u00a0all over the globe.\u00a0We have taken\u00a0advantage of this\u00a0by\u00a0augmenting our\u00a0outstanding\u00a0faculty\u00a0with surgeons from the USA, Australia, France and\u00a0ourguest lecturer\u00a0Dr Cecilia\u00a0Rogmark\u00a0from Lund University, Sweden who will talk on \u201cOptimising Hip Fracture Care\u201d.<\/p>\n

On\u00a0Friday 11th\u00a0June, the\u00a0Second BHS Instructional Course, intended for those preparing for the FRCS(T+O) examination, will take place in parallel with the Scientific Meeting.\u00a0The programme is now available and can be downloaded\u00a0HERE<\/a><\/p>\n

Registration for the Scientific Meeting and the Instructional Course is now open with \u201cEarly Bird\u201d rates still available. Please see the BHS website for details\u00a0HERE<\/a><\/p>\n

BHS Extraordinary General Meeting\u00a0Wednesday 9th\u00a0June\u00a01800-1900<\/strong><\/p>\n

At the close of the first day of the Annual Scientific Meeting, we will be holding a short EGM to discuss initiatives that the BHS Executive Committee are proposing for which discussion and agreement\u00a0of\u00a0the members is necessary. Further joining information details and an agenda will be sent nearer the time.<\/p>\n

BHS Mentorship Programme<\/strong><\/p>\n

Following a survey last year, the BHS Mentorship Programme has launched. This work has been led by the Culture and Diversity Working Group alongside Dominic Meek.\u00a0The mentorship programme is designed to support colleagues at any stage of their career as well as encourage the surgeons of the\u00a0future.\u00a0We are very grateful to those members who have already volunteered to become mentors. Mentor profiles are being uploaded onto the website; please bear with us if you have sent one in and it has not yet appeared on the page. Training sessions are being held for mentors and there is still opportunity to join these. If you are interested in becoming a mentor or would appreciate support from a mentor, details can be found\u00a0HERE<\/a>\u00a0.There will also be a presentation at BHS 2021; join us for the live stream on Thursday 10th June.<\/p>\n

BHS Midweek Special Webinars<\/strong><\/p>\n

This new initiative by the BHS began\u00a0on 14th\u00a0April\u00a0with the first midweek\u00a0educational\u00a0webinarlooking at \u201cPrimary THR-Technical Accuracy\u201d hosted by Jonathan Howell.\u00a0The event was available to all registered BHS members and was streamed live on\u00a0OrthoTV.\u00a0Feedback was excellent and the programme will\u00a0continue to\u00a0run every month\u00a0covering all aspects of hip surgery.<\/p>\n

The next webinar is on\u00a0Wednesday 12th\u00a0May<\/strong>\u00a0and details can be found on the website\u00a0HERE<\/a><\/p>\n

BHS – Consensus Panel Members<\/strong><\/p>\n

In my last newsletter, BHS members with interest and expertise in VTE were asked to\u00a0volunteer to participate in the latest\u00a0International Consensus Meeting (ICM)\u00a0being run\u00a0by Prof\u00a0Javad\u00a0Parvizi. I am delighted\u00a0to report that the society will be represented by Professor\u00a0Mike Whitehouse, Mr\u00a0Gulraj\u00a0Mathuru\u00a0and Mr Joe\u00a0Pagkalos\u00a0and I am sure they will keep us updated during the consensus process.<\/p>\n

By the time of my next email, we will have had a further\u00a0BHS Midweek Special Webinar, a further meeting of the Revision Hip Network Panel (Wednesday May 19th) and\u00a0will be on the verge of the Annual Scientific Meeting. Busy times indeed!<\/p>\n
